My First Blog :)

Midterms are upon us. Been a real busy week. Apart from that the Flyers have won five of their first eight games for the first time since 2011-12 so it's been a great start so far. This week we had a short week in class. We just discussed some presentation tools that can be beneficial to making your presentation more memorable and entertaining. We then used those tools to create a slideshow about what we are doing for Halloween. I watched The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown a few days ago so I am stoked for Halloween. The reading this week was the third chapter of Untangling The Web. This chapter talks about presentation tools (I see what you did there) other than keynote and power point. One specific tool it talked about was Prezi. There are a couple things about it that I didn't know. One, if you are an educator you get a free premium membership to Prezi. The Flyers beat the Capitals last night 8-2. So, I am incredibly happy to say the least. Great showing from everyone. Other than that this week has been pretty uneventful. We're kind of in the calm of the storm right now before midterm season. This week in class we had our first app smackdown. I went first with StockTwits . It's essentially Twitter for the stock market. I thought it was a really neat idea. It's easy to get caught up in the technical side of stocks, so seeing people's feelings other than just reading a balance sheet is refreshing. Everyone else in class also had some really innovative apps that I can see many people getting use out of. Our assigned reading this week was chapter 6 of LOL...OMG.  This chapter discussed the, "content of your content." The chapter urges the reader to ask themselves questions about why they are posting content, and how others view your content. One example in the chapter is of Miley Cyrus posting goofy pictures

Another week, another blog. This week was a pretty awesome week. Hockey season has begun, and the Flyers are two and one so I'm feeling pretty good. This week we were assigned the first chapter  Untangling The Web by Steven Dembo and Adam Bellow. The first chapter talks about curating information sources to benefit educators. They talk about three curation sites; Symbaloo, Diigo, and eduClipper. The interface that Symbaloo uses, called Webmix,  creates a ten by six grid that can be customized to be linked to thousands of different websites. I can see how this can be incredibly useful to educators. It's an interesting way for students to get engaged in a topic being discussed in class. In class this week we had a guest speaker from the writing center talk to us about APA formatting. It actually ending up being really helpful as I had two papers due in APA format this week. We also saw a video of someone identifying people on the street via instagram posts, twitter posts, etc

Hello fellow bloggers! Hope you all had a fantastic week as usual. Personally I've been under the weather for the last few days, but I'm not going to let that stop me from writing my blog. This week we read chapters 3 and 5 of "LOL...OMG". There are two points (one from each chapter) that I'd like to touch on. First, in chapter 3 it is noted that if you do not edit the privacy settings on your Facebook. Theoretically, over 296 million people have access to that information. I don't know how that makes you feel, but it makes me uneasy. What is not noted is that anyone with a little hacking knowledge can easily find out a lot more than just what your last status update on Facebook was. All of your posts, the times you posted them, the exact computer from which you posted them from, and even a live face cam from the web camera on your computer can all be found out with little trouble. Granted, to do this you need to commit well over 10 felonies, but the fact re
